About Martin
Martin is an academic expert on Christianity, freedom of religion or belief, radical Islam and the global persecution of Christians. He is also CEO of a recently established research centre on the global persecution of Christians He is the author of two major books as well as having over 100 articles published particularly on Christianity, historic British values and radical Islam. He is a recognised expert on Christianity and the human right to freedom of religion or belief and has been repeatedly quoted in the national and international press including the Sunday Times, Daily Mail and the Sunday Express and undertaken multiple live radio and TV interviews including with the BBC and CBN News in the USA. Martin has also had practical experience of contexts of persecution having been an overseas aid worker in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. He has also previously held senior leadership roles in Education both in the UK and oversees. He has been instructed as an expert witness in more than 30 cases including those before the England Wales High Court, Court of Session in Scotland, the Crown Court, The Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, Employment Tribunals, as well as professional conduct tribunals. He has also been elected as a practising member of the Academy of Experts (MAE) - and is the only such accredited expert witness in the UK specialising in Christianity. |
Academic
Martin did his PhD on Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region (using the academic disciplines of Church History, Biblical and Islamic Theology). He has subsequently published work on Public Theology, History, Islamic Studies and Church History. He has been published in the UK, USA and Australia. His current research focus is on both the historical development of freedom of religion in the English speaking world and on the present day global persecution of Christians.
In 2021 he established the Lindisfarne Centre for the Study of Christian Persecution of which he is currently CEO. He previously worked at Anglia Ruskin University where he set up a course in Research Ethics. He has been a research supervisor at the Oxford Centre for Religion and Public Life and the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers (FRGS), a Member of the Academy of Experts (MAE) and a member of Tyndale Fellowship for Biblical Research.
